What is a Placepot?

The Placepot is a pool bet on the first six races at a meeting. To win, you need a horse that places in every one of the six legs. Because it's a pool bet, the payout (the "dividend") depends on how many other people also got through, so it can pay well even when favourites place.

A horse counts as placed if it finishes in the places for that race:

  • 4 runners or fewer: it must win
  • 5 to 7 runners: first 2
  • 8 or more runners: first 3
  • Handicaps with 16 or more runners: first 4

Lines, perms and bankers

You can pick more than one horse in a leg. Every combination is a "line", so 2 horses in four legs and 1 in two legs is 2×2×2×2×1×1 = 16 lines. Your total cost is your stake per line times the number of lines. A banker is a leg where we're confident enough to pick just one horse, which keeps the number of lines down.

How we choose our Placepot

We pick the day's feature meeting: the one with the most prize money over its first six races. In each leg we take our top-rated horses on form, ratings and fitness. The two legs where our top pick stands out most become bankers, and the rest get two picks (three in very big, open fields). Each leg is ticked off live once the result is in.
